Which Skip Trace Add-Ons Are Worth It?

Add-ons are where a skip trace goes from "phone numbers appended" to "campaign-ready data" — and also where an unfocused order wastes credits on columns you'll never open. The right question isn't "which add-ons are good?" It's "what is this list for?" Every add-on earns its cost on some campaign type and is dead weight on another. Here's the framework, campaign by campaign.

Cold calling

Calling has the highest compliance stakes and the highest per-contact labor cost, so this is where add-ons pay for themselves fastest. You want three things: DNC/TCPA flagging (0.5 credits per row) so registered numbers never reach the dialer, litigator flagging (0.5) so known serial plaintiffs get suppressed entirely, and phone verification (0.5) so your callers spend their hours on numbers that are tested and reachable instead of disconnects. If you'd take DNC and phone verification anyway, step up to the Data Verification bundle (0.9) — more on the math below — and add litigator on top.

SMS campaigns

Texting compounds compliance risk (TCPA covers texts) with deliverability economics — every message to a dead number is spend and sender-reputation damage for nothing. Minimum order: phone verification plus DNC/TCPA. Since that pair alone is 1.0 credit, the 0.9 bundle is strictly better: same coverage, plus tested emails and verified-only phone columns, for less.

Direct mail

Mail flips the logic: you don't dial anything, so skip the phone add-ons entirely. The mailing address is part of the base trace. The one add-on that's always correct here is Deceased — it's free, and suppressing mail to deceased owners avoids wasted pieces and genuinely painful letters to grieving families. Honestly, at a price of zero, deceased belongs on every trace regardless of channel; there is no scenario where you'd rather not know.

Email campaigns

Tested Emails (0.1 credits) adds verification status to every returned email. At a tenth of a credit it's nearly free insurance for your sender reputation — bouncing a cold-email domain off unverified addresses is far more expensive than the add-on. If you're running email alongside calling or SMS, the bundle already includes it.

Probate and inherited leads

The owner of record on a probate lead may be deceased — the person who can actually sell is a relative. Family Skip Tracing (1.0 credit) returns contact info for relatives and household members of the matched owner, which on these lists is the difference between a dead end and the right conversation. Pair it with the free deceased flag to know which records need the family route at all.

Entity-heavy lists

If your list has LLC and trust owners — landlord and portfolio lists especially — enable LLC & Trust Tracing. It's different from the other add-ons: it changes which rows get traced (entity rows are otherwise filtered out) and its 6 credits is the total price for those rows, not an add-on fee. Individual rows on the same job still bill at the normal rate.

The bundle math

The Data Verification bundle packages DNC/TCPA (0.5) + Tested Emails (0.1) + Phone Verification (0.5) — 1.1 credits bought separately — for 0.9, and adds verified-only phone columns you can't get à la carte. The rule falls out of the arithmetic: the moment you want DNC plus phone verification (1.0 separately), the bundle is already cheaper. Only buy pieces individually when you truly want exactly one of the three.
